I am pleased to be collaborating with Ken Sands to lead a workshop for journalists looking for jobs.
The workshop is presented by the Master of Professional Studies in Journalism program at Georgetown University. (Don’t go to the main Georgetown campus, though; we’ll be meeting at Georgetown’s Clarendon center, 3101 Wilson Blvd., just across from the Clarendon Metro station.) We’ll be meeting Saturday, April 9, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
As I noted last year in this blog, I learned a lot about digital job-hunting from both sides, first finding my job with TBD, then hiring our community engagement staff.
Ken, deputy managing editor of Bloomberg Government, has been doing an amazing amount of hiring recently. BGov has been filling 150 jobs, attracting 10,000 resumes. So when Ken offered to help with the workshop, I quickly agreed.
We’ll share some advice and answer your questions. You’ll have some time to work on your resume or Google profile (bring your resume on a flash drive or have it accessible online) while Ken and I circulate through the classroom offering individual advice.
The workshop is free, but you need to register in advance by emailing sfk9@georgetown.edu by April 1. If you’re looking for a journalism job, I hope you can join us.
Please blog about the workshop for those of us who can’t be in D.C. that weekend!

Much of the advice I will be sharing is in this blog post: https://stevebuttry.wordpress.com/2010/05/21/some-tips-on-landing-your-next-job-in-digital-journalism/
If I offer notable new tips, I will certainly share them in a new post.
