Newsroom leaders struggling with the challenges of innovation will find help in a low-cost training opportunity next month in St. Louis.
Bring your Valentine with you to St. Louis (I’ll be taking mine to dinner at an Italian restaurant on The Hill) and join us for a Feb. 13-14 Mid-America Press Institute Seminar, Innovation and Managing Change in the Newsroom.
Bill Densmore, founder of CircLabs and the Information Valet project, will get us started, sharing some research from the Reynolds Journalism Institute at the University of Missouri.
I will lead a session on how editors can use Twitter to connect with their communities and elevate the journalism of their staffs. David Morris of NewsOK.com will discuss the video approach that won recognition for his company as Innovator of the Year from the Associated Press Managing Editors. Other speakers will include Margaret Holt of the Chicago Tribune, Mizell Stewart III of the Evansville Courier & Press, Tracy Schmidt of ChicagoNow and John Foreman and Meg Thilmony of the Champaign News-Gazette. Joe Hight of The Oklahoman and NewsOK.com led planning for the seminar and will lead a panel discussion. You can see the full program below.
MPI (full disclosure: I’m on the MPI board) provides the best low-cost training opportunities for journalists in the Midwest that I know of. If you lead a news staff in the region, I’m sure you will be pleased you decided to spend the weekend with us.
Registration is only $50 for people from newspapers that are members of MPI, $75 for non-members. You get discounts on additional staff members you send.
